I was perusing the dollar "junk" bin and I came across this well-used, slicked British pre-decimal penny! I know it is pretty rough, but correct me if I am wrong: this is King George III, right? That would, based on the odds, place this guy in the 1700s I believe?

I like old relics. It likely isn't work any more than the $1 I paid for it, but think of all the people used it and the places it has been.

    Nearly slick, but surprisingly undamaged.

    Neat piece. :)

I'd guess it's 1806 because that date seems really common. I agree though it's awesome to own something with George III on it just because of his role in U.S. history.

    It's a halfpenny, pronounced haypenny.

Here is about ten thousand British coppers in my hoard, I think I can see another one in the top layer and its six to eight inches deep. Top right quarter, looks a bit darker than the others.

That is the guy that owned the United States of America!

Of course, that was before it was called the United States of America. :D

Just like today, the USA was owned by a bunch of rich Americans and (unlike today, when the Cinese own a good chunk of it) the French, the Hawaiians and Russians and the Spanish had a share,if you want to cover all or most of the current USA.
George did not really own any of it, and he only ruled it nominally with less actual power than POTUS.

Once it got too heavy to move, that was that. Then it just grew with almost all the coppers that were not worth enough to bother with. For 15 years.
