Hello, does anyone know what might have caused this? Is it damage? The lettering was obviously messy by eyesight, so I looked at the side immediately to se if it was damage. But these 2 are so messed up (note, there are 2 funny 1983 P, One good 1983 P, and a 1943, just for contrast). The sides look like some kind of machine, but I don't recall seeing this before (I am new at this). Even the head on the bad ones don't look right, like his head is melted. Thanks all.
TY. Apprecciate, but any idea what chewed the sides? Maybe not the best bics of side, on some u can see a split in the coin, and actual divots. It was 2 right next to each other. That seems like it would require a bit of heat. Just trying to learn, looking at as many coins as I can. Thanks.
Someone probably was feeling creative and wanted to try altering the coin. Probably done with a hammer.
