Hi my name is Brian. Recently I was in my backyard metal detecting I dug about 8in and found this 1803 large cent. After ding a little research I found I think 20 different varieties of this coin, and to my untrained eye they all look the same. Also I'm unsure of the grade it would be any help would be great thanks........

    Hi Brian,

Welcome to the forum! Could you get a picture of the obverse similar in quality to the picture of the reverse. It would make it far easier to attribute the coin, as well as assess it's grade. I'm sure it would make it easier, not only for myself but also for others who may wish to help.

1803 small date small fraction. gap between ends of wreath directly almost below gap between E an S.
    S-245, 247, 250, 252, and 256.

Point of leaf left of center below M
S-250 and 252 (same die for both)

Point of curl between inner and outer curves
of the B, hair wave just right of upright of E.

    S-250 R-2

On 252 the point of curl is below the upright of the B and hair wave just left of left edge of upright of R.
