Hi Everyone, I just acquired a 1963 DDR dime graded PF65. I did not yet received the coin but will post photo once it come. I would like to know if any of you may know the value of it. I had look in the red book that has it around $350, however my book is about 1-2 years old and I'm not sure if the price is accurate
I don't know if the price is accurate, but it would definitely depend on whether it was accurately graded. Also value is not dependent on red book prices.
Grading can be subjective. Which is why people who buy coins in slabs have been known to break them free and submit for grading. If it grades higher, then they can get more for the coin, especially if they sell it to people who buy the slab (based on the grade of the coin) and not the coin (looking at the coin to determine if it is accurately graded). Conversely, it might be overgraded, and the longer it remains in it's slab the more opportunity the person having that slab will be able to sell it for more than it's actual value. It will behoove you to learn to grade the coins yourself and then you will be more likely to spot the coin you want instead of relying on a piece of paper to tell you what it is. That takes time and effort. But there are books that help tremendously. PS.... when it arrives, take good pics of it and post them, let some of the people here let you know if they think it was graded well and what it's actual value might be.
Here's a link to Prices on what I think is your coin purchased. Looks like they only have info on prices for PCGS slabbed ones, but all but one are under 100.00 for them and the one that isn't is was for 199.00. I would suspect, aside from people who think that NGC grades more accurately (and some people think PCGS does), that this may represent the actual value of that particular coin. http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/146352?redir=t unless you have a different ddr than this one.
Kasia thanks for your input. I have been studying on grading coins myself. When I receive the coin I'll give a try and I'll also post the pic
well it doesn't seem so, when you said that hopefully NGC graded it correctly, it doesn't make sense to me, since you say that you did buy it for the coin but... idk
Ummmm. Like I said I brought because it was listed as a 1963 DDR if it wasn't graded at a all and if the price was right I still would have bid on it. As we all know just because it's slab doesn't mean that it was graded right. That's what I mean when I said hope the NGC had graded it correctly. If you don't understand that I dont know what to say to u. It seem simple to me.
Ok I have received my coin so I'll will post the pic. Please let me know if these pis are good. Also judging from great collection one in the same grade sold for $66. So I guess I did ok. Not jackpot put ok since I paid $53 on Heritage
