While at the Chicago ANA show last month, I saw the very same medal slabbed in a large NGC holder. The medal was graded MS62 I believe and has some nicks in it and the rim was splitting from the rest of the piece. Looked pretty neat in a large NGC holder. I'm thinking of getting mine slabbed as I'm sure it would grade higher (not that it really matters) but it would preserve it a little better. Too bad they won't slab the paper box too as that is very very fragile and every time I move it I see very small pieces of it left behind in my showcase!!!!!
@illini420 There's got to be some way to further protect that paper box! Slabbing it might be a good idea just to keep it safe.
I'm not typically interested in the standard US fare, but there are some very interesting pieces in that lot. The Baldwin gold is exquisite, and the overly-chopmarked T1 is fantastic - too bad it's not for sale. I also wouldn't mind owning the Bechtel dollar and the wooden medal.
I'm not mostly into ancients, really. I collect anything, but whatever I collect has to tickle my numismatic fancy. Chasing high-grade coins for market value holds no appeal. Thanks for sharing some great pieces.
That was certainly an eclectic collection! Thanks for taking the time to write this up, and to the coin owners for being willing to share their stories.
