Today while I was out of town on business I finished up my route and checked out a small town coin shop that I had looked up on google. It was actually a good visit, friendly dealer - a lady no less! and nice coins graded and priced within reason. So anyway I am looking over the coins and she had some shield nickels - I really want one, but have never owned one and want a nice one. Hers topped out at about fine condition and I think I want an uncirculated common date. But it got me to thinking, I have never owned one, or a twenty cent piece. I have owned all the other coins, except the $4 coin. Not sure why I have never owned a shield nickel, but I believe today I found a new pursuit. What US coins have you never owned?
I have none of the classical era commemorative coins from 1892-1954 yet I have all the clad and silver (plus a few gold) coins of the current commemorative era 1982-to date. A goal of mine is to own a 1935 Hudson, NY Sesquicentennial half dollar. I was born in Hudson in 1960.
I've never owned a 'classic' proof US coin, or an Indian Princess G$3. (The shop has had both, but I've never had either in my personal collection) Greetings from Ballston Spa, NY. I sold my last Audi to a gentleman in Hudson. The DMV down there is really cool, it's located in an old bank building, with the original vault -- circa 1870s, I believe.
I've never owned any type of commemorative coin or a Barber any higher than a dime. There are others, but those are goals in my distant numismatic future.
i have always wanted a 20 cent piece, trade dollar its not that they are out of my price range i just haven't found one that i want !! Hopefully this year will be the first year i buy some !!
I want a 2.5 Gold Eagle from the 1800's (Obviously would like any of the higher denominations) however the 2.5 I can afford without breaking the bank.
A short list (I could go on with the different designs for each denomination), but I have never owned: -Gold -20c Piece -Barber Quarter/Barber Half -Trade Dollar -Any dollar before 1887 -Any Large Cent before 1795 -Any Half Cent before 1804 -Any half dollar before 1807 -modern Commemoratives (Olympics, Baseball, etc) There's plenty more, but I think I'll stop there
Ive never owned a half cent, shield nickel, Flying eagle cent, any bust coins, and any silver dollars before morgan. Oh and no gold (just yet
he he... open the redbook, odds are good you'll put a finger on a coin I haven't owned.... I think I may drop some hints that a post 1800 Draped Bust large cent might make for a good Christmas present this year. That would check off another one for me.
On thinking I remember very briefly owning an 1868 shield nickel, I bought it from Gaithersburg Coin in Maryland(enough has been said about them in online forums that I will not say anymore) but back in 1992-3 I didn't know any better and bought what they said was a BU example - it was more like EF, not even AU IMHO and I returned it and my charge card was credited. I am going to buy one. From a reputable dealer.
Gold, 20c, shield nickel, trade dollar, bust anything, flowing hair anything, colonial anything, barber anything (currently by choice )
Never owned a Trade dollar nor do I plan on it anytime soon. Focusing my collection on buffalo nickels right now.
Besides exotic early type coins and gold, I don't own any braided hair or classic head half cents. There are quite a few other 19th century type coins for which I have only low grade examples.
Too early in my collecting journey to say there are coins I've never owned, but that being said, there will be coins that I will never be able to afford! Like Stellas!
I always wanted to own a Texas Commemorative. But I have never figured out why-the design is busyier than a one arm paper hanger.
Oh lord... I have owned some incredible coins over the years... Continental dollars... early gold... early silver... yep... owned those... BUT I have never owned a Stella... yet.
