Here is a Barber quarter from 1915. Any guess on the grade? Is it details or is it cleanly graded? What are the thoughts on the surface and patina?
looks like it has dipped (cleaned) several times then turned dark after a period of time. not sure what the grade is.
Pictures can be very deceiving, wear may look like toning, and toning may look like wear. Environmental damage can sometimes look like toning, and toning may look like environmental damage. A weak strike can sometimes be mistaken for wear. Hairlines, light scratches, contact marks, and even wear may not show up in pictures, or some or all may be exemplified. Given all of that, I'm going to guess (and that's all I can do is guess) that if seen in hand that I would grade this coin 63 or 64.
AU55 is my guess on grade, based on the pictures. If it had an issue, I would guess environmental damage.
Can't start to grade that coin. All I do know is that it has zero eye appeal for me. I would not buy it for my collection.
Despite the hints in the title and the o.p. I'm going to stick my neck out and say AU53. (if in a problem holder I would guess AU details, PVC damage).
I swear I replied to this thread above Doug like two nights ago. Hmmmm Anyway the coin is cleanly graded as an AU-50 per old ANACS with the lamp hologram on the back. I saw the coin on eBay and wondered about it since I have one very similar in my collection already. There wasn't any detail grade assigned, I was fishing to see if there was a problem that wasn't noted though.
