Latest addition is a cheap greek I got. Not even sure if its attributed correctly. Lariasa Thessaly (2nd century BC) Æ18 o: Head of the nymph Larissa right, with hair tied in bun at back; monogram behind . R: Apollo standing right, shooting arrow with his bow; monogram to right. 18mm 5.09
check out the second coin here at wildwinds mat, i think that it. a tad larger than your, so maybe not...but they have it as "apollo" and "artermis". http://wildwinds.com/coins//greece/thessaly/larissa/t.html apollo always looks like a chick to me....awwwwwwwwwwwkward.
I saw that on a few sites, but still not sure. Mine looks to have a quiver on the lower left at 7 o clock and the leg on the reverse is shaped different.
Even though it's low grade, the portrait is of great style. The engraver must have been a skilled artist Q
hmmmm...yeah, that may not be it. does anyone know what the "BCD" reference is that wildwinds uses for the coin? that may be a good tree to bark up.
Well, thanks to another collector on Forvm replying to a thread of mine, now I have found a proper looking match on CNG, he linked to a low grade one from a old Forvm item. http://www.cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=22400
Nice little coin. It's funny, I have some worn Greek bronzes and when I see pics of better-grade examples, I actually appreciate my coins more. My mind's eye fills in the detail.
You want the BCD reference? You got the BCD reference (at least for Thessaly): BCD Thessaly I: http://issuu.com/cngcoins/docs/nomos_04_proof BCD Thessaly II: http://issuu.com/cngcoins/docs/bcd_triton_xv_virtual_catalog
