I got quite a doozy from Thailand today...

But wait, that's only one side, lol...

These sellers have turned me into a de facto stamp collector.

Anyone else have any interesting packaging?

... I have far too much misc-stuff laying around the house (envelopes haven't made the collection-list)

... but that's a pretty cool envelope, my friend

I have some. Packages from Uzbekistan, Cyprus, etc are interesting.

Wow! That's quite a good start to a stamp collection. If the stamps are interesting I will usually tear the corner out of the envelope.

Yeah, I know about the stuff lying around the house. I don't have too many, though - I don't keep the boring ones. But here's another guy that needed to use up his stamps...

Looks more like someone who bought discounted postage from a stamp dealer. That stuff from the 60's and 70's can be bought for like 80 cents on the dollar. Some people buy it up at discount and use it for postage.

Just save them to use to ship coins I sell to save a money.

Really? I had no idea - I don't collect stamps. You would think a seller would ask at least face value for the stamps if they're still usable.

Nope. Its not like you can spend stamps, and small denominations are a pain to use, and small denominations from this period were massively collected. So, net net is they are worth less than face value. I have gotten plate blocks and all kinds of cool stamps on my envelopes from dealers before. I collected stamps when I was a kid.

    Sorry, I didn't realize when I uploaded
the images that you were speaking
of mailers. The guy I used to get BIEs
from, who was an early member of the BIE Guild, aways sent them in holders like those-very detailed.

    doug444 STAMPS and POSTCARDS too!

Nope. Small denominations are a nuisance, and deserving of a discount. Plus, you can only put so many 8c, 10c, 13c, etc., on an envelope or a package, you still have to keep some Forever stamps or even $1 stamps on hand. When I need new stock, I pay 70% and sell for 80%, plus postage and insurance.

I have ten crisp new fully-gummed sheets of 100 22c flag stamps ($220 face) ready to go on bidStart (never eBay) when the "season" begins in about 3 weeks. They were issued in March, 1985, before some of you were born. :D

I used to save the envelopes with interesting stamps, but not anymore. You can soak them in water for a couple minutes and the stamps will just fall right off because the gum/glue will dissolve long before the stamp paper. Press them flat as they dry and poof you'll have a free stamp collection that takes up a lot less space. :)

    chrsmat71 I LIKE TURTLES!

i have received some heavily stamped envelopes, but not quite like those. i also collected stamps as a kid, and still have them at my parents house, but don't collect them any more. i recognize some of the stamps on JA's second envelope from my old stamp collection! i also have way to much crap the way it is, so i pitch all the envelopes.
i have also received some interesting packing material. newspaper pages from foreign lands are always fun to look at. also got a small lot of uncleaned coins wrapped up in tin foil like i was supposed to cook them on the grill or something.

While I do not collect and hardly ever use stamps, I do get some really nice ones from San Marino every now and then. The numismatic office in that country is also a philatelic office, and ... :)

Why do I still have those? Every year or two years we send our stamps to a charity organization which checks, sorts and sells them.

I did that for many years when I was very active on eBay. One regular customer of mine actually requested I use the older stamps if I had them. I was actually getting sheets of stamps from the 40's up to the 90's for 80% of face value if I purchased more than $25.00 and paying 70% if I purchased more than $50.00 face value.
