Hello everyone. My question is : Is this a common die crack for the 1883 Liberty nickel ? I'm not sure if the pictures loaded so if they didn't come through I will try again.The crack runs through the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA Thanks for looking at this (if there are any pictures to look at ) Mark.
Howdy Mark - Welcome to the Forum !! Sorry, the pics did not come thru But I can tell you that yes, die cracks on Liberty nickels are quite common.
GDHMSP is correct, in the early days using nickel in coins the mint had a hard time minting since the metal was far harder than they were accustomed to using.
