My grandmother recently passed away, and my grandfather who spent many years as a Merchant Marine has started to go through coins that he brought home from NUMEROUS countries. I'm going to spend time going through them, as most have some identifying words that I can search with. However this one is different than the rest and doesn't seem to come from a country he remembers visiting.
The regnal year looks like 33, added to the ascension date AH 1293 (regnal year 1) is AH 1325 or AD 1907.
1876 (1293AH) Egypt, but I'm not certain it's a 20 Qirsh, could be a 10 Qirsh. Any chance you can weigh it? If it's about an ounce, then it's a 20, if only half that then naturally it would be the 10 Qirsh. In either case, quite common in the circulated grades, and quite a bit more scarce in mint state though not rare.
Thank you for all the replies. I weighed it, and it is 1 oz. Glad I'll be able to fill in the information for him.
I said Turkey without reference to any books or online sites. It is a coin from the Ottoman Empire ruled by Turkey issued for use in Egypt.
