Hello friends.... Thx sooo much for all the help yesterday. Like I said yesterday, I bought a pretty big lot of colonial stuff and that is NOT my forte...LOL. The 1st coin, I think i put like 4 or 5 pics for you all(trying to help you all help me) It was in the same bag with like 7 or 8 1492ish Ferdinand and Isabella cobs. It might be a Columbus type cob but I did a TON of research and it didn't look like any of them and I cant find anything on it or figure anything about it at all. The other 2 coins: 1st is an incredibly rare 1865 10 reales that one just sold for 1500 Euros,,,,,Wow.. Mine has a hole but is in amazing condition(2 pixs of that. The last piece (3 or 4 pics...is a tough one guys...I looked EVERYWHERE!!! If I think it is what I hope it is...an anacs 45 just sold for $2000.00. Again mine has a hole though...My luck. out of a 50-60 piece colonial coin lot, the 2 that I hope/think are the rarest have holes...lol...oh...I paid $120 for all. SO...Can some of you geniuses offer ANY help or info???PLEASE? Value, condition.....?Whatever I can learn from you all is so greatly appreciated. THX GUYS!! Frank P
The 1863 Spanish 10 Reales, is not worth much more then melt because of that hole other wise it would have been a pretty nice coin !!
my catalogs only go back to 17th century so I can not look up your 1st coin. 2nd coins date looks like 1863 not 1865. look again on the heads side. it is: Spain, 1863, 10 reales, KM#611.2 , weight- 13.1455g. or .3804 oz. metal- .900 silver grade/value VG-$7.50 F-$15.00 VF-$25.00 XF-$45.00 guessing your coin VF. that hole will kill the value so I have no idea what it is worth ? again Krause catalogs values may differ than real life market prices but give you a starting point. 3rd coin. I am having a hard to finding it. if someone can tell me if it is from Spain and the denomination then I can help.
Thx for the help....man too bad for the hole....It is a valuable piece without that stupid hole!!!! Oh well
Don't go jumping to conclusions about the hole. A great many collectors of older coins don't mind holed coins at all. These colonials were frequently used for jewelry, and you're not going to visit any museum collection of colonial coins that isn't going to have a handful of holed pieces. The market value of the coin will be determined by someone's interest in its numismatic value, not necessarily its eye appeal.
Thx a lot...a got an AMAZING DEAL on a lot of about 50 colonial pieces....all denom reales to 8 1492ish columbus cobs and a bunch of diif. colonial silver coins and OLS cobs.....all for $120
Amazing deal? How many were damaged, cleaned, holed or counterfeit? Sorry for being negative, but can you show us even one problem-free coin?
Hell i mean even if each of the coins he has are worth $6.00 a piece that would be $300!! Then add on the fact that a few of the coin he put up 2 days back were ok and i believe 2 or 3 were valued between 25-40 dollars so i don't think he did to bad !!
I was suspicious when I heard "amazing deal". None of the coins posted in this thread are problem-free and for the others we don't know if they're genuine.
I sold 1 2 reales for $75....so all i have cost me $45.....i don't fall into negativity so worry not my brother. I am selling only 1 more now and that is an el cazador 8 reales w/COA on an auction site...Ive already made a cash profit...the rest is butter! Also, ive tested all the coins(all silver) and weighed them and they come from a very reputable source......Im happy! And you said "counterfeit"? which one was that??? THX!!
