Neat double struck quarter... but what caused the lines?

Anyone have any ideas? I'm trying to wrap my head around it.

    Neat item.

That desk of yours is amazing.

As for the lines, struck thru a thin piece of material, that was wrapped around the coin.

    unusual

Second strike delivered by a pair of counterfeit dies of relatively soft consistency. The warped surface (especially evident on the obverse), the soft accessory design elements, and the lack of sharp, intermittent disruption of the normal-looking strike are all consistent with this conclusion. As is the presence of narrow stripes.

Just to add that the coin is .27 grams light as well... Still a neat piece to learn from.

I'm surprised it's underweight. Does it show the copper core on the edge?

It does have a core... But it is seemingly thin in some places and hard to see in others. Sounds like I'll have to send it in for a look see just to confirm.

Odd. My original opinion remains unaltered, but perhaps the folks responsible for this counterfeit strike also happened to select an underweight quarter. Stranger things have happened.
