Ancient ID help

    Does anyone want to take a stab at these? My local ancient dealer pulled them out of a pile and said he was at a loss.

    I told him I would post them here to see if anyone of our numerous experts could ID them.

    I've seen these somewhere. But I can't remember where or what they are exactly. just looks familiar to me. Waiting for someone else to chime in..

    RB, they are cilician armenian coins i believe, about 13th century.

    I am thinking medieval Armenian as well.

    I was thinking they were from the medieval period as well. What makes you believe that they are Armenian?

    Those are pretty cool coins, Bannon ... at first I thought that they might Carolingians, but then when the others started chiming-in I figured that they were most likely correct ...

    Here are a couple of examples of mine that kinda reminded me of your OP examples ...

    Diameter: 20 mm
    Weight: 1.56 grams
    Obverse: Without mint signature (Orléans). + CΛRLVS REX FR, cross pattée with pellet in each quarter
    Reverse: XPISTIΛNΛ RELIGIO, temple

    AR Tram (Coronation issue)

    1198-1219 AD
    Diameter: 22 mm
    Weight: 2.75 grams
    Obverse: Levon seated facing on throne decorated with lions, holding cross and lis-tipped scepter
    Reverse: Two lions rampant back-to-back, each with head reverted; between, cross pattée set on spear
