I`ve shown this before so I apologise for repeating it. Its first century Celtic pommel from a dagger handle, made of carved lead with a ferrous neck. I found it detecting less than 100 metres from my home. I also found a 13th century long cross penny about a foot away from it within 10 minutes. Last year I found a bunch of Roman stuff in a nearby field. I don`t go detecting much nowadays as its a PITA as I have titanium, steel and shrapnel in my left lower leg, from injuries and an accident and I have to walk dragging my leg behind me like Forrest Gump to prevent the detector picking my leg up instead of what is buried in the ground
How come Doug aka GD is just riding in the front passenger seat instead of driving? The resemblance is uncanny -
There are several candidates for the role of Jed (DougSmith, Doug/GD, Bing...) but I think we all know who the driver is... Jethrox6.
Awesome haul YOC. I would love to go detecting one time in England. Of course I don't think the gf would be too excited about going out in a field with a guy from the internet to dig old coins. Guess she will have to stay home then.
Wow some lovely coins there. There is nothing more in the world I would love to do than metal detect in the UK.. Im originally from England but moved over to New Zealand before I was old enough to go out by myself :/There is just no history in New Zealand at all (being one of the youngest populated countries) so I cant metal detect
Wow! Those are fantastic finds! Congrats! Metal detecting for and finding some ancients is on my bucket list.
As I said......if any CT members are ever in the UK, just PM me and i'll sort out a trip. I have some nice land with Celtic, medieval and Roman sites...you never quite know whats next and hoards have come out of the land..
Wow that's really generous of you. If I ever come back to the UK on holiday I'll definitely try take you up on that offer
