Well it lasted about 2 hours. went to the bank this morning picked up 10 rolls. I didn't know what mint mark the were from the roll by itself. I put on my cotton gloves and opened one. They were Denver. As soon as I knew I put them in 2x2's to keep them from getting scratched. I put all 25 in silver dollar 2x2's so if I need to show, anyone can see the edge of the coin and the mint mark. Looked at about 10 of them closely. Found the first error for these coins. If you look at the coin with GW's face up and turn to the side you'll be able to read "IN GOD WE TRUST 2007 D". The error I found says the same BUT it upside down. Error? I hope so. That would be a nice find for me.
Sorry, it's not an error. The way in which these coins have the edge lettering put on them is after they have already been struck. Thus, they all land differently in the striking mechanism, so the edge lettering will be in all different orientations. -Paul
just took a quick glance on Ebay for 2007 error coins. There are alot being sold either as error or a variety. I'm gonna hold onto mine to see what happens. I've seen them being sold from $1-$33 Maybe in the next couple years they will be known as variety1 and variety2
Hmmm...I originally stated that it wasn't an error....but I'm thinking it might simply be much less common to have the edge lettering upside down, because one with the lettering upside-down is selling on Ebay for $33. However, I bought 3 of the dollars from Bank of America (all they had) on the first day, and 1 of them has the edge lettering upside-down....so I'm just not sure....
So what's the error? They have publicly announced, as quoted in Coin World and other coin mags, that in addition to the usual two-step procedure of turning a blank into a planchet in an upsetting mill, and turning the planchet into a coin by a press that also applies reeding (when required) by the collar, the Deadprez coins go through a third machine which applies the edge lettering. Therefore coins fed rrandomly into the edge machine can be squeezed with either side up, and with completely random orientation of the edge lettering with respect to the portraits of GW and Lady Liberty. This has already been mentioned in a half-dozen or more recent threads.
Yeah, my roll is "mixed," too. Guess that means they don't have a Mint employee to turn all these heads-side-up before they stamp the rims.
