Oh heart be still. I think the only thing that's artificial on that is the grade, it's too low.

    Beautiful coin...I'm surprised it's only a 64.

Nice , a beautiful 64 as I think all the chatter is what held it back . I'd like to hear what rlms-cents would call it .

What you are seeing as chatter is actually the surface of the planchet.

Early cents with this crisp and deep a strike are hard to find and can give the coin this grainy look.

Nice example....under-graded by PCGS, probably based purely on luster. Generally, all 1916's are sharply struck since new a master hub was used.

    I bought a
'17 where you can count the hairs it's so well struck with the 1 year old hubs . How I wish they used that hub even now as Lincoln looks terrible on these low relief zincoid junk they mint today . Victor D Brenner and Lincoln must be turning over in their graves . BTW I love the color on your '16-D .

16's and 17's are the way I think all Lincolns ought to look. Yes, today's are low relief, but the 50's through the 70's had no beard.

They're definitely the best looking Lincolns along with the Matte Proofs .

Matte proofs are great, but I can afford a 1917. Even a nice one.

Sorry, but there are no matte proofs here. I guess MS65, but it only made a 64.
