Keep looking. Maybe go to a local coin shop. Better Yet, the Ling Beach Coin Expo is on Sept 4th-6th in Longbeach. http://www.longbeachexpo.com/ Stop by Fred Weinberg's Table (#833) as he always has a bunch of really cool error coins to look at. The Penny Lady will be there as well with her copper cents. (Table #848) You can shop and you can talk to these folks about your interests and maybe even pick up some common error coins for discussion here.
The marketing as a Poor Man's Doubled Die was during the 1950's and the coin collecting craze. [Obviously there was no internet at the time]. Obviously, today it would not be promoted as such, yet many folks (like the OP) still get fooled by them. To see many other 'non-errors' see Frank Spadone's book on errors. He even included a 'slanted 1' [I believe it was a 1941 Lincoln) as a variety. Today we know that this is simply a result of damage from a counting machine. These were back in the 'dark ages' when errors were just beginning to be being studied.
Thank you for using my post. Really? A slanted '1'??? hum--please not another thing to check out----wait---call the grand kids and see if there is any in there??? darn it--knew I shouldn't have sent those coins
