Ummm yah, I have always wanted one of these sweet coin types ... who wouldn't, right?

=> a sweet galley, a fricken hippocamp, and then they toss-in an amazing kill-scene on the reverse, featuring a lion and a bull (huh, apparently a lion would win that fight) ...

Oh, I also want to preface this thread with the following ...

One of my awesome coin-friends has an even sweeter coin "waiting in the wings" ... so, this cool offering of mine is kinda like the warm-up band!! (you guys are certainly in for a sweet treat!!)
    ... anyway ...

=> back to my cool coin => this 1/16 shekel is pretty darn tiny (another one of my tiny offerings) ... yah, I heard a rumour that the ol' Greeks would store their coins in their mouths (well, I'm pretty sure that a few of 'em were searching through their scat after the fact, for it would be extremely easy to accidentally swallow this sweet lil' coin!!) .... eccchhh ... man, I hope that didn't happen too often to my sweet new addition!!

"enjoy" (I've always loved this coin type ... finally, I have a purdy nice example to share with you comrades) ...

Phoenicia, Byblos King Uzzibaal AR 1/16 Shekel
    Date: 365-350 BC
    Size: 11.03 mm
    Weight: 0.76 grams
Obverse: Galley sailing left, hippocamp swimming left below
    Reverse: Lion attacking bull, left
    Reference: BMC 6
Other: A nice example with bold detail and near perfect centering which is seldom seen in the issue

Huh? ... yah, I'm always astounded that the good ol' Greek craftsmen were able to create such intricate designs on such small pallets, eh? (very cool)

It's a winner! That's a ton of propaganda and identity packed into a small space. Kudos to the coin's designer. And who doesn't like hippocamps? :D

Yah, it's kinda why we buy our coins, no? (I love being able to show-off to you guys ... sadly, not too many of my "real" friends are too interested in my cool hobby) ...

TIF's coin may overshadow yours just abit now, but when you're both old and arthritic and she's struggling to lift that flashy boulder of hers, you'll be glad that yours is a handy little 1/16 shekel!

I have absolutely no coin of any relevance to post in this thread, so I'll post this nice big provincial sestertius, just because it arrived in the mail today.
