Ummm, I've "almost" finished my 50 Cent Piece set (close enough?)

Ummm, yah, like most of us, I still need to track-down the illusive unicorn-coin ...

=> the dreaded 1947 Maple Leaf, Curved 7!! (yup, it continues to be my Lex Luther)

    ... anyway ...

=> here is a retro look at one of my older obsessions ... enjoy

... I was born in 1963, so this is pretty much pre-stevex6 ...

Note => I upped my game and I have "complete coin sets" from 1963-to-date ...

I hope you liked my blast from the past!!

    Cheers, coin bros (and sis)

Nice set Steve. I have always said I would really like Canadian coins, (and I still like some), if they weren't one sided. I just don't care much for looking at the same dude or dudette's pic over and over on the obverse. At least Romans had some variability in the pics. Maybe if Liz had a different hairstyle each year it would be more bearable, give George a Mohawk or something.

Nice set, Steve. I'm curious how some of the mintage numbers are given as 1/3 million or 2/3 million. That would mean that somewhere out there there's .333333333333...of a coin and .66666666666...of a coin.

Nice. I've been thinking of paying more attention to my Canadian collection. I collected most of the modern coins but still need most of the silver issues. Mine won't be as nice as yours though.

    Wait - you collect moderns?

I've collected Canadian coins throughout my lifetime (on and off) ... I've only branched-off into ancients during the past few years (but I still keep my toe in the ol' modern coin world ... it was my first love ... you never forget your first)

Curious? ... in 1959, the mint changed the design on 50 cent piece "slightly"

=> which design do you prefer? (the 1937-1958 design, or the 1959-onward design?)

... I think I am a fan of the original design (it seems less cluttered)

I agree. It's an elaborate coat of arms, and it didn't need to get smaller. The detail is definitely cramped.

Steve, that's a great set and I know how much love and labor it takes to put together a set like that. Thanks for sharing.

I have decided that my 1947 ML CR7 in VF35 PCGS is probably a coin I will keep until I get rid of Everything. And I hope that is quite a ways off, as I have decided to concentrate on the half dollars and gold of Canada and pretty much have consigned all the rest (which was quite a lot, as you might remember) to Heritage. (It had been on my website for quite a while, but Heritage just reaches such a vaster audience ...)

As a fellow Canadian-collecting friend of mine said, "Don't ever sell that coin, George, as you will never find another one." I turned down an offer for it at BRNA show last week for more than three grand. Again, thanks for sharing and congratulations on the accomplishment!

    Best Regards,

    George

George => thanks for the coin-compliments, my friend

Oh, and thanks for reminding me that there are dudes out there that have actually found a 1947 Maple Leaf Curved 7!! (dirty trick!!)

    ... just jokes ...

yah, if I were you, I would keep that coin "forever"!! (I've always referred to it as my illusive "unicorn-coin" ... I had a chance to buy an example for approx $3000, but ended-up deciding that I'd buy one later-on ... looking-back, that was a poor decision ... I wish that I'd pulled the trigger back-then and completed my set) ... nowadays, my ancient coins have taken the front-seat, so it is fairly doubtful that I'll ever purchase that sweet ol' unicorn ...

Again => thanks for the compliments and "congrats" on owning a super-fine Race Horse!!

    Cheers

Well, I never let a wide-open chance to Rub It In go unpunished! Seriously, if it makes you feel any better, I didn't make it myself ... I bought it already slabbed from another collector for Strong Money.

    Best Regards,

    George

Hey, do me a solid and post a photo of your coin (oh, but only if you have one handy ... no pressure ... thanks man)

... maybe I'll attempt to super-impose it over that nasty ol' hole in my coin book?!!
