I strongly disagree! If everyone followed that advice they might go out of business, and we'd lose a great source of entertainment, not to mention so much fodder for discussion here.
I'm curious on this. Why would a bank/private company order bags instead? Does the FED charge more for the boxes? Seems to me that the only advantage can be that the bags are easier to handle. Aside from that, they have to pay the company to wrap them so it would cost more wouldn't it?
It's not necessary to pay that much. www.usstatequarters.com has much more reasonable subscriptions: $32.95 for 25-coin rolls (P or D) ($65.90 for both) $27.95 for 20-coin rolls that are 1/2 P and 1/2 D. $10.95 for all 4 2007 dollars either P or D $19.95 for all 4 2007 dollars in both P and D That seems like a good alternative for people who don't want to pay the premium to the mint or only want a small number of coins. I used them to buy enough state quarters to fill several albums and they've been very reliable and have good customer service. Of course, if you can pick them up at face-value at the bank, that's even better.
I gotta go along with that, Mike "understand this" Mezack is a hoot, no two ways about it. Thanks, Douglas
Funny story; "On the way to the bank". After driving around town all day @ 2.68 a Gal.,being turned down at several banks, I finally found a Wells Fargo bank that had the new coins. I went to one teller and sent my wife to another. I asked for four rolls and the girl said "if we had them we would let you have them, but all I have left is 19 coins". I said I would take all I could get, so I hand her a $ 20.00 bill and she gives me the 19 coins and throws in a 1997 Susan. In the mean time my wife gets her rolls and yells at me to come to her teller because he has rolls. Forgetting about all the other people in line waiting their turns, I run over to the other teller and ask for four rolls. No problem. Word to the wise; Don't believe the first teller.
I went to my credit union and they told me they don't have them and said they aren't going to get them. Maybe I should think about opening an account at a bank just for the purpose of coins.

Now all ya have to do is become a member bank and you can order from them. That web site does not sell coins to the public.
it can't hurt to call them and ask someone here said they once walked up to the fed and cashed a check or something of that sort
you are correct at one time they did do walk up As I have stated before the Philly mint is directly across the park fro the Fed Reserve . When the state quarters first started I would go and walk up to tellers at the fed and get them. It lasted up to New Jersey then the fed said no more civilians only big banks . I believe NY was still doing walk up for little guys but who knows maybe they stopped to
I finally went to my bank yesterday and got one $25 roll, it had N.F. String & Son wrapper, no mint, so I didn't get any more (they were D). They only had six rolls left from the first $1000 batch. I asked a few questions but the lady who orders them was at lunch and the two tellers didn't know much except they plan on getting them every three months and every issue. I have a hunch this may change after the initial frenzy wears off. Thanks, Douglas
Well I got to the bank today they were only alowing whole roll purchases no loose coins. And I have to say I dont like thaes coins at all, they feel cheap in hand the quality is verry poor in my opnion not one without scratches/nicks. Also the edge lettering is not done deep enuff. Maby the coin shuld have been thicker I dont know. I put the best 2 in 2x2's & I will spend the rest.
And not a single bank has chosen to order the Mint rolled coins?? (After 8 days not a single report of ANYONE getting Mint rolled coins or rolls with the mintmark on the wrapper.) And every single bank is having the same company wrap their rolls privately? And none of them are wrapping their own? (Eight days and every roll reported has been in the exact same roll wrapper and marked the same way.) Finally none of them are getting them in bags and offering the bags totheir customers? (None reportedhavingdone so,even for those people who have bought in $1000 or$2000 size lots.) I really believe the earlier report was wrong. The Mint rolls will only be available by direct purchase from the Mint. I want to see that 1997 SBA!!
Friend Condor, I agree with your sentiments exactly. Not one person has reported getting rolls that indicate mint other than from US Mint direct. Someone even reported in NYC opening day from the Fed they got generic rolls. While it may seem like the same company, it's not. What is the same is N.F. String & Son, Inc. makes the machines and wrappers, so the equipment is the same. Who rolls and wraps them I don't know. Thanks, Douglas
Friends, I'll say something else, I betcha US Mint direct uses String machines but they are the only entity supplied with mint specific wrappers. Thanks, Douglas
I'm not like most of you guys. I don't do rolls. Rolls are for speculators. Coins are for collectors. I just picked up two of the Washington coins, all I wanted. I thought the reverse was beautiful, but on the obverse, Washington looks like a snarling pit bull.
Oh i had a bunch of these to give out but I spent them maybe i should get some extra for the next release in 3 months? I am unsure if they will travel safely through regular post though?
Several posts about buying, selling or trading Deadprez dollars have been removed from this thread. Sorry, but such posts are absolutely forbidden anywhere at CoinTalk except the Open and Auction forums, which have their own specialized rules.
Considering that no one seems to like these coins and that they woudnt take off there certainly seems to be a strange shortage of them from reading these posts LOL whats going on guy's do people actualy like them after all?? De Orc
The cause of the shortage seems to be a reluctance of the banks to order them. To me that says the bankers expect them to go the way of the SBAs and Sacs, and has absolutely nothing to do with the reality of whether most people actually like them, dislike them, or are indifferent to them.
