ok, a star note is made when a note of sheet of notes it accidently damaged. when they are damged, they go back and get shredded. they then make new notes with the same serial number. these new serial numbers have a * at the end of them. stars are rare to find. some are more rarer than others. if you find one, keep it because a good shape star note can be worth lots in the future. just about a month ago, my dad found me a nice uncirculated 2003A star note. this note was perfect. no creases, or anything. they say finding a star note is 1 in 100,000. i have found 4 since i stareted looking in june 2006. that averages out to be about 1 every 2 months. stars are in really high demand and everyone wants to get their hands on them. i think they will begin to gain popularity and value in the future.

When an imperfect note is detected during the manufacturing process after the serial number has been overprinted, it must be replaced with a new note. A "star" note is used to replace the imperfect note. Reusing that exact serial number to replace the imperfect note is costly and time consuming. The "star" note has its own special serial number followed by a star in place of a suffix letter.

The serial number of the imperfect note that was removed is not used again in the same numbering sequence.

    There ya have it....

the star note does not carry the same serial number as the one it is replacing... that woul be too complicated.
