I was wondering if there is any photo or visual reference for the Jefferson Nickel RDV & ODV listings? In trying to ID some nickel DDO or DDR a wexler listing it might reference as a marker RDV-006. I know on sites like varietyvista they have the other domination but nickels are blank. Can anyone post or point me into the right direction?

In some cases RDV are just called Type 1 or Type 2 Reverse. lincoln cents for example the 1988-D Lincoln Memorial with a Reverse Design #6 (LMRD-006). CONECA calls it RDV-006 The 1988-D Lincoln cent with RDV-006 is called a TRD or transitional reverse design as it is supposed to have LMRD-005 (CONECA RDV-005) design. When they change to new designs sometimes there are overlaps creating cool TRD varieties like the Lincoln cent 2000 Wide AM or WAM. Just for Jefferson Nickel's I can't seam to find a general listing as to what the rdv are supposed to be or look like.
The Jefferson Nickel Analyst, Bernard Nagengast, has pictures of some of the die varieties. There also have been detailed discussions about the 72 and 82 die marriages on various discussion boards (including CoinTalk if I recall correctly) within the past couple of years, but I can't remember where all of them are. Some had pictures of the differences. Try searching with the phrases "reverse of", or "obverse of" in the search box. If you do find a comprehensive guide, let me know.

Nickel ODV and RDV's don't get a lot of ink. In most cases, you will find information scattered among conversations about other things. The '38 and '40 reverses are pretty to do on business strikes, proofs are a different story, There are supposed to be four different die marriages for the 1972 P and 2 for the '72D. I have only ever found one pairing - Obverse of 72, reverse of 71. For the P coins the types are Type of 1970; Obverse of 70, reverse of 71; Obverse of 72, reverse of 70; and Obverse of 72, reverse of 71. For the D coins Obverse of 70, reverse 71; and obverse of 72, reverse of 71. The 81 reverse of 82 is a new one on me. I've not heard of that pairing before. The 82/77 and 82/82 are pretty easy. There also is speculation as to whether the large star from the late fifties may be found as a transitional pairing, but I have never heard of one. Hope this helps BTW, don't know if you are interested or not, but there are a few years (at least 41, 46, 52, and probably 74) where multiple mint mark styles were used within a given year.
