I have here a 1970 s proof half with vibrant rainbow toning. I checked fleabay and didn't see any for sale that looked like mine. Is there a market for this coin? The pics are poor. I want to sell some of the coins I inherited for a scanner. Thanks in advance.
It's still in the original mint packaging. All the coins I inherited were ordered from the mint directly, and most were still in the mint boxes they mailed. I've never bought coins for numismatic value (except for 1 mercury dime last week), so all I can say is I've got a bunch of mint-set stuff. And gold. The plastic was never cracked, and the rest of the coins in this 70 set are either pristine or corroded (the penny).
ok. not sure what the price would be ? maybe start it at $10.00. others here that collect Kennedy half can tell you more. Mercury dimes rule.
Whom I inherited it from was an arm chair collector, living in Alaska. He wasn't a numismatist afaik, mostly a gold/silver hoarder. He wouldn't know what toning was, or damp-rid for that matter. I'm not a coin collector, mainly paper, but the more I go through this stuff the more I want to buy (hence the merc). Buy MS dimes, that is. Mercs and Barbers. But I'd like to sift through this first and make some money on it.
I recently bought a rainbow toned Mercury dime off Ebay. check out some of the other toned coins I bought on this page. link: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/post-a-toned-coin.191715/page-246#post-1968290
Nice stuff. Here's a pic of my dime. And getting back to the subject, this toning on the Kennedy truly is wonderful and unique. The only thing it's missing is the pot o' gold at the end . Did I mention I wanted a scanner???
Laziness? I have access to nice equipment, it is an option. Maybe an iPhone 6 will do when I buy one but I'm not experienced taking pics thru plastic and scared to pop anything out and handle it.
Very strange toning i could see it be worth 10.00 to somebody but not much more then that, mainly because the toning looks a little to vibrant!!!
