I recently found a Missouri coin that had a white paper looking design on it. I was wondering what the significance of this was.
I'll take a guess that it is a Missouri tax token. Two are white cardboard varieties, both 43mm in dia. S2 - white cardboard with blue border and state seal, black print MISSOURI / RETAILERS / ONE (superimposed on a numeral 1) / MILL / SALES / TAX RECEIPTS Reverse is blank S4 - white cardboard with orange border and state seal, black print MISSOURI / RETAILERS / FIVE (superimposed on a numeral 5) / MILLS / SALES / TAX RECEIPT If it is one of these, I have additional info for both.
I looked up the tax token suggestion and found only old tokens. What i found was a quarter that had the same design as the new ones but it was engraved in white on the back
A Missouri state quarter? Not sure, but it could be this: The artist responsible for the original design of the Missouri quarter has raised quite an uproar about the fact that he did not get credit for the design. The design was actually changed slightly. I've seen the original, and I think its a little better than the one on the quarters. Anyway, this artist and a bunch of his freinds put little paper stickers on a bunch of the quarters which show his original design-like 50,000 or something like that- and then put them back into circulation. I guess as a protest or something like that. That might be what you have.
