HEY ALL!!!! I hope this is it! Found in coin roll from BofA. I am thinking dbld on the date on the 9 and the 3. I am also wondering about the reverse as I believe some of the letters appear more thick and the C in America may show some separation There is also what I believe to be a die chip on the obverse above the T. Thank You All even if I am wrong (hope not MD).
In true doubling , the numbers would be wider in total than normal, but in this case they appear to be considerably thinner on each part ( such as the left part of the tail of the 9 and the right part) that the overall width is close to normal I believe it is MD. There also seem to be some damage to the copper plating and some corrosion interaction in the area of the lettering. This can leach under the copper foil and cause swelling in the zinc beneath, making the letter appear somewhat larger. I see nothing indicating true doubling.
Well that's terrible!!!! That's the best MD looking Dbld I have ever found! Well at least it has a die chip! Man guys I am way bummed on this one! Oh well I WILL FIND ONE, especially with guys like you to help!!!!! Thank you guys!!!!!!
If you are searching these out using an USB microscope, be sure to check them with a loupe and single light also. It is difficult with the low contrast of an USB microscope to tell if one or more area is raised or flattened. When it has more than one light ,coming from opposite sides, the edges of the letter/number can be brighter than the middle and look like a doubling line down the middle of the letter/number. Even though your eyes or magnifying device may stay the same, with experience your brain will start to recognize varieties . It does take time, we all know.
I did actually use a loupe and the USB scope, I even found a dbld on Wexlers that looked very similar to the 9 here, but theirs did not include the 3 it included the top portion of the 8. Oh well, I trust you guys very much!!!!! So just back to the Louping board LOL Where there is a Will, there is a Way!!!!! I will find one!!!
I agree with desertgem. here are some tips on how to control light on usb camera; being that most don't actually have a function to do that. you can cover the leds on the usb microscope and use a usb led light to have single source of light. Or use the bottom part of a cd cover to lessen the light. One trick is to cover it with the bottom part of a cd case cut out around the circle. another trick isyou can take the rubber/plastic covers off of a peg board hook set from a hardware store or dollar store and place them over all but one light.
Hey thanks so much!!! I will give these a try I did however use an eye loupe and saw the same on the 9 and 3, but I am constintely running into the LED issues and I think one of those steps above will help! Thanks so much for taking the time to do that!!!!!!
