I am currently in Tel Aviv with the family. Took my daughters to the Eretz Israel Museum in Tel Aviv and passed by this very impressive display of the Leo Kadman collection. The exhibit offers an opportunity to travel through time and have a first hand glimpse of the evolution of coinage, manufacture, and art. Unfortunately, I did not have as much time as I needed to do this properly with the girls wanting to leave. I may try again on my own before leaving. There is a virtual tour on the site and this is highly recommended for anyone who visits Israel - Site - The Kadman Numismatic Pavilion http://www.eretzmuseum.org.il/e/116/ I did take some snapshots on the go - not great imaging using the iPhone, yet gives one a sense of the breadth of the exhibit. Quite a selection. Coin Minting Process and Tools: Shekel of Tyre Hoard found in town of Ussfiyeh Greek Coinage
Very interesting stuff, Zohar. Thank you for taking the time to post it. Seeing anything that has to do with the minting process is particularly intriguing.
What an amazing opportunity for you to have that experience. Israel is on my bucket list of places I will probably never get to visit. Thank you for sharing these images. I hope Steve notices that amazing Rhodes coin!
Thank you! Those Tyre shekels with "pagan designs" being accepted as "Temple tax" payment, now that is interesting. I also like the idea of using enlarged drawings or photos - some of those pieces are just tiny ... Stay safe, and have a good time with your kids! Christian
Wow, thanks for the show, Zohar .... man, I love the Rhodes example with the cool griffin (gryphon) symbol (want list x 10!!) Hope you and your family are havin' fun ... ummm, where are we goin' next? Cheers
