Picked this one up. Like the design in particular the reverse. Still working on the Sicilian pickup images which I will share separately. CAMPANIA, Neapolis. Circa 320-300 BC. AR Didrachm (20mm, 7.41gr). Obv: Head of the nymph Parthenope to right, her hair elaborately curled and bound in a wide taenia, wearing triple-pendant earring and pearl necklace. Rev: Man-faced bull walking to right, head facing; above, Nike flying right, holding a wreath to crown him. SNG ANS 317. HN Italy 565. NGC AU* 5/5, 5/5, Fine Style.
Wow!! ... ummm, so that's what these coins are supposed to look like, eh? => gorgeous (congrats!) ... again, I hate that all of your stuff is slabbed, but I guess I understand that it is probably easier to unload your wares, if and when that time rolls around, right? (again, congrats ... outstanding example) ... Eh-heh-heh ... I have a humble example, but unfortunately Nike is a wee bit off-flan (oh well, I still like this coin)
These are usually on a flan that requires choices of what to lose. My coins are low grade but have both horns at the expense of the tail. Steve's has great legend and bold bull anatomy at the expense of the Nike. I have seen a couple on large flans but it is not the usual situation. That is the situation with too many ancients. Perfect is hardly possible. Which imperfections we choose is a matter for each of us.
Really nice. Not enough "Likes" are possible. ... Greek city of Neapolis in Italy. I get that all the time, "Are you "Eye-talian?" No, my grandparents came from eastern Sicily; they were Greeks. "Huh?" I like the word HELLIADES. The word "cosmopolitan" was coined at Alexandria in Egypt.
Yes and Athenian owls. It might be an interesting thread to list as many other coing in this category as we can. There are coins that are never off center or partial detail. The slab companies must love them. They grade like US coins.
