A couple of weeks ago, I presented a PowerPoint on Mercury Dimes at the monthly coin club meeting. The presentation was on the history of the coin, key dates and various strategies to collect them. I added some pizazz, fun and humor to the content, discussing how Teddy Roosevelt had "style" and how we wanted beautiful coins, and how Barber lost in the war of nepotism. We also had a great collaborative discussion on the strategy on collecting the rare 1916-D dime, including identifying various counterfeits - and there were many identified counterfeit variations.

The discussion was interactive and fun because we discussed why these key dates are rare based on history and strike, and what to look for when collecting Mercs. I made the presentation interesting for the younger collectors in presenting the history on why the coin came to existence and showing the exponential price delta for those Mercs with full split band recommendations.
