Hello. Brand new to coins, pardon my ignorance. Was just handed a 'coin collection' full of many pre 1960 Quarters, and found this, along with a few other oddballs. Before I turn it in for $0.25 I wanted to make sure she wasn't saving it because it is some kind of error. Most likely I suspect dryer, or some combo of heat and pressure, but the word Liberty is really all wrong, even the placement of the letters. What do you think? Some kind of error, or just beaten silly? TY much!
I can't explain the damage to your coin, but it's not a mint error. It looks like it might have been a juke box coin in a past life.
Metal detecting quarter. I find these all the time at the beach. It is the effect of salt water on the coin
Ummm.......wouldn't that be environmental damage? If a metal detector can do that to coins, then people should stop using them. Chris
