The back isn't as bad. Although the m & e in 'dime' look smudged and united states is messed up a little like the front. On the front liberty is messed up as well (very broad I know... see picture please). Also, the 5 in 1985 is half missing. Just wear or mint error. Coin is 1985 p.

    Thanks!

Your poll choices dont make sense for the question being asked. Unless you only want an answer yes = "Wear OR error" and no = something else. Seems a silly way to do it:

    How about 4 choices:

    wear
    error
    PMD
    other

    p.s. Welcome
p.s.s you need WAY, WAY, better photos

Sorry terrible post & dreadful pictures... answer yes for error or no for not an error. If pictures are absolutely useless I'll just delete them and start fresh in the morning. Thanks

What does the edge/reeding look like?

Probably just wasting time trying to describe a dime when I am not to familiar with errors/coin collecting, but I'll give it my best (senior in high school working fast food and the other day I figured... why not look for old coins. Found some cool 20's coins and stuff, but then I noticed this one stood out from the other 100's we see every night). On the back dime is sort of smudged or flattened out. As well as united states is missing half of the upper portion of the letters. On the front its the same with a flattened ring going around the edge of the dime. Cutting through 1985, we and liberty. The top portion of the head is fine, but closer to the edge than other coins. This being said it is roughly the same size as any other dime.

The outer portion just looks like a coin that was never pressed into a dime, but on the back its not nearly as bad and the outer ring around it (which is raised more than the part engraved) goes in a full circle unlike the front.

Yes it may be a broard strike. If there is no reeding (vertical grooves) on the edge it may be a broad strike. If there is reeding and if coin is not mis-shapened as it appears to be in the photos, then it may be that the dies were not properly gapped when they set up the press. Before they started the presses they gapped the dies so they would not clash during a mis-feed. If the gap was too wide or it got wider during striking then there would not be enough pressure to bring out the whole design.

It's not wear. Wear is greatest at the high points on coins.

If you post better pics I think you'll get more replies.

It's pretty messed up. Coin itself is in great shape... looks like a newer coin. Once again the back has a faded/smudged 'me' in dime & united states is half there half faded. The front has a ring of non pressed metal that is raised higher than the actually coin. Hope my 90's pictures and great description helps discover what's wrong with this coin... and if there's any value. Plan on just keeping it though.

I can't make out much from your new images. Based on your first set of images you may have a broad strike. Or an off center if your missing any letters entirely. Sorry, maybe someone else can see something different.

I have just found a dime with same errors. It's been in the environment so it's rough .however the mistakes are very clear . W is barely viable . 5 is almost cut off .head very close to the edge and Me barely visable. I would post pics however my camera sux..when I find a better one I can use ill post back . is this dime of any value?
