+1 I would do a completed listing search on ebay for similar bars. Many of the old pour bars carry a premium.
couldn't find any completed, but here is one with a bit of a premium asking price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Engelhard-4...pt=US_Bullion_Bars_Rounds&hash=item3f3a85eb5c Different style, but worth looking into
Here is a link with some similar JMC http://www.ebay.com/sch/Bullion-/39...kw=jmc+4+oz+bar&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc
Dear Friends, Have you all gone Mad? It's an $80-110 chunk.. fleabay can do what they want, don't sucker into it.
People collect bars by type. Just like people collect one ounce rounds, by type. While I wouldn't pay an outrageous premium, I would pay more than spot for either of the two in the picture. Old hand pours are cool. I've got a couple of the old 10oz Engelhards. They look neat and are easy to store.
Galen I'd buy all the 2,3 and 4 oz bars you can get me at spot. THyatt, IIRC the 4oz bars are about 1500 to 2000 http://allengelhard.com/definitive-pages/definitive-page-engelhard-odd-size/
that allenglehard website is awesome, gives mintages of some prospectors and their 1 oz bars as well as the year of the bars
My Grandad had two small, say 2-3 oz. gold bars he got during the occupation of Japan, numbered, with The imperial crest, they went missing in the late 60 's never have seen the like since. beautiful and unknown.
Sorry , I didn't understand these bars, they are beautiful, only problem is my dealer still wont pay more than spot.. why??? who knows.
well on allengelhard.com it looks like a later 4th series bar, mintage of around 500. One sold for $1650 aug 2012. The jmc bar has got to be rare too
Another P. T. Barnum following. Englehard was purchased by BASF, who retain all rights to the former name, and legally could reissue any number of any 'rare' bars if they so wished and saw a profit. Remember those 'rare' and extremely valuable Beanie Babies so many fools bought. Last ones to sell bite the loss. IMO.
