Question about slabbed dollar coins

Discussion in 'Coin Chat' started by Clad the Impaler, Aug 12, 2014.

  1. Hi everyone. Just a question about when dollar coins are slabbed. I've seen an "S" before the $1 designation on the slabs for these coins (e.g. Morgans, peace). Seen it on PCGS, NGC, and ICG slabs. On all coins, not just San Francisco issues. What does this mean/stand for?? It's kinda driving me nuts....nothing about it on NGCs web site...HELP!! Thanks.

Correct. At one time, since clad IKE Dollars were out, the TPG's felt the need to specify that the $1 was a silver dollar.

At a later point in time, the word SILVER was added effectively replacing S$1

    Sometimes, the label got both!
