Now, that's just plain dumb. You can get proofs for $3.75 each from the mint if you can wait a couple of months.
Remember, the elephant is a horse designed by a committee, and the Deadprez dollar specifications were designed by a 635-member committee known as the United States Congress.
I was surprised that the local bank didn't have any, and still doesn't. I've made friends with someone there, so hopefully he'll come through some time soon. Eventually they'll have them, but... who wants to wait for eventually?
Two things I got out of this thread, one is fact and the other is not supported by fact. Fact; wrappers are not mint marked. Maybe fact; banks can order mixed boxes. I take this to imply that a box can be half P and half D; or a bank must order at least two boxes, specify they want a box of P and a box of D. In either scenario you have a dilemma if you want to collect unopened rolls. I live in the midwest so it's a toss-up as to which mint a particular bank receives. Opening one roll does not insure the next roll will be the same mint or a different one. Maybe the boxes are marked, I don't know? Right now I'm thinking the only way to get both mints is to order directly from the US Mint and pay the premium. Thanks, Douglas
I picked up a roll at the bank last night. Not too impressed with the design. IMHO, they look more like tokens or play money. Were the images done by the lowest bidder?:goof: But, at least I can always spend them.
I agree but that's due to the fact that many of the features of typical coins are located on the rim, instead of the obverse/reverse, thus... it seems like a token. I'm wondering if anyone is going to have a hard time spending them (stores accepting them) similar to Kennedy halves and $2 bills as discussed here previously.
I did not think I would be able to get george at any of our local banks but a friends daughter in law called him and said they have a few rolls. He got 4 rolls for some people who wanted them and a few loose ones to play with. Later another bank told me that they would get some wednesday week. At first no one knew about them but it looks like even out in the sticks , they are showing up. I liked the coins looks more than I thought would . It just did not have that money feel, like a token or something out of a cracker jack box.
I’m not positive but I believe your bank gets whatever mint mark( MINT) that is closest to the Fed reserve bank, then that determines what mint mark your bank gets. Philadelphia Fed right across the street from the Philly mint get all P's Here is the Link to Fed http://www.frbservices.org/Cash/comcoin/philadelphia.html
I think the design is an excellent example of artistry and FINALLY we have lady liberty back on a coin. The President Dollars are for CIRCULATION not just a collector item SO YES YOU CAN AND SHOULD SPEND THEM. madspec
told the bank went to my local bank today. Teller said all she had on hand was 6 in her drawer. Talked to the manager, the said the vault will be open on Monday morning (time lock). He said come in monday morning and get all you want. Talked with the teller after the manager and she siad they have alot so any order wouldn't be a problem. Now the waiting game begin. I never thought I'd say this but I wish it was Monday!!! Most likely they are Denver mints considering I'm right down the lake in IL. Have fun collecting them. I know I will. Ron Thinking about putting an order in for every release date. It helps when you've been a customer for over 30 years too.
Please elaborate, as I understand wrappers directly from US Mint ($35?) have mint designated on them, but wrappers you'd get from your local bank don't. I hope the latter is is not the case because I want to collect unopened rolls and I do not wish to pay the extra ten bucks. Thanks, Douglas P.S.: I have a memo in to my personal banker and hope to hear back from him Tuesday.
am I wrong but aren't the presidential coins that the banks are getting contracted out to companies that roll them.
It was explained in an earlier thread. The mint is packaging and shipping rolls with United States Mint printed on the wrapper, direct to the Federal Reserve. The FED then ships the same rolls directly to the banks. However, the banks also have the choice of ordering the coins in bags if they wish. And these coins in the bags can then be rolled by a private company or the banks themselves. So, for the first time you will be able to get mint wrapped rolls directly from your bank for face value. But only if your bank chose to order them that way.
"We haven't got them yet and are expecting them anyday..." Thanks Bank of America... for NOTHING! Grrr!
Hey guys the Cion vault is doing, Washington P&D rolls for $99.96 :headbang: "but will also have all the other cions in this series at this locked in price" :mouth: buy going into this program you wont have to pay more for the entire series incase you dont pay attention & miss a president they will just ship to your home :headbang: . What say you guys, go to my local bank (walking distance ) on tue or call up the goobers and pay 2X face ?
That's a no-brainer, buy directly from US Mint for $35 each. Is the Coin Vault the same as Mike Mezack on HSN? I only caught the tail end of his show Sunday morning, I'm sure I missed his segment on Prez dollars. He's sill peddling those funky gold plated quarters. Thanks, Douglas
