Went in to the LCS today and got to look through some wonderful Roosevelt Dime albums. I wasn't able to buy all the coins I wanted...but I did snag these three for $1.50 each. Yes, you may become jealous. I'd like to confirm which RPM the 1953 D is (I'm thinking RPM-003?) and see what you think these stand grade-wise and FT-wise. I've got 5 NGC free submissions to use, and if any of these deserve to go I will include them. Thanks! 1946 S/S/S/S RPM-001 DDR-001 1948 D/D RPM-001 1953 D RPM-? *obverse cuds/die breaks on eyebrow, nose, and cheek *obverse die break from hair below part to rim *numerous die scratches on obverse behind neck *reverse die break on inside left olive branch *reverse die break from lower torch bands through O of ONE to rim
65, 64, 66 is my guess. Very nice examples! That would be an awesome snag even if these were not RPMs! Your LCS seems a lot more generous than I am...
So, I just got something in the mail today and decided to try it out. Here are the same coins (and one more I picked up a few days ago) with an LED ring light that attaches to the camera lens. I feel like the coverage is more even (no more hot spots or dark areas, a big pet peeve of my previous system) and the color is more easily seen, but the luster is completely gone. Details are definitely easier to see, though - especially on the S/S/S/S. Thoughts/advice? 1946 S 1948 D 1953 D 1963 DDR
Just wanted to throw in an update for any interested parties...just got my grades in for my recent NGC submission (my free 5)...and the 1946 S/S/S/S will come back as an MS67FT. (not sure if any * or + desig) Yep. For those keeping track, that is a TOP POP one of either 3 or 4 coins. For $1.50. Score!
I personally don’t care for the LED lighting photographs...it is so hard to control glare, especially on a silver coin. I prefer using halogen lighting through a white cloth filter. Larry Nienaber
