This coin was found on a Arctic Ocean Beach near Point Barrow, Alaska. It is just slightly larger than a U.S. Silver Dollar. What is it?? I think it is French, but from there I am lost as I do not know foreign coins. Can someone please tell me what I have here??

    Thanks, Bob

It's a surprisingly well tooled fake with all of the design elements looking as they should, except maybe a bit flat.I happen to own a real one of the same date, which strangely enough has reddish toning on the obverse.Unlike yours however, the color is ON the silver not UNDER it.
An interesting find though.I'd certainly hang onto it.
    Here's mine for comparison.

    Foreign Coin??

Thank you all for your help. I had an idea that it might be a fake, but just did not know for sure. I specialize in Morgans Dollars and it is rare for me to see a foreign coin (except Canada) this far north in Alaska. I figure that coin was on that beach for at least the last 100 years and probably more. It was probably dropped by a sailor off of a whaling ship in the late eighteen hundreds or early nineteen hundreds on a beach they used for landing shore boats, about 5 miles east of present day Barrow. Thanks again. Bob

Man, I'll tell you, it seems like all the coins I find near the Arctic Ocean are forgeries!
