I have added several new banknotes that I have acquired from the Indian National Army era -- where little is known about Subhash Chandra Bose and the Banknotes that were issued at that time. The text has also been updated. These issues are very difficult to come by since most of these notes were lost when a submarine carrying them from Germany to Japan was torpedoes. If interested, see the update at the link below: http://navonanumis.blogspot.com/sea...i-hind-bank-of-independence-banknotes_24.html B. Vinod www.navonanumis.blogspot.com
Very fascinating that the notes have portraits of Gandhi and Jinnah. I know that Gandhi was not a huge fan of armed rebellion against the British Empire and any links with Bose were minimal at best. Jinnah is a mysterious figure, like Bose, he was very enigmatic and unpredictable - so his placement on the notes is somewhat understandable. I think it also fascinating that these were issued more like donative receipts and not as actual attempts at currency issuance.
My understanding is also that these are donation receipts and not intended to be an issue of paper money. Although they have serial numbers, the numbers are part of the design and the same number appears on all the same type. The fact that most of these use the phrase "Jai Hind" or "long live India" suggests they were issued post independence and were not issued by the Azad Hind.
One school of thought is that these notes were issued after independence-- there is a second school of thought that they were printed in Germany - the notes where the colors change from top to bottom are in fact difficult if not impossible to counterfeit -- I have checked with many folks, but I have not been able to get confirmation on when they were printed... there is also no record that the Azad Hind Bank every issued notes ... I have also noticed that these notes are also extremely difficult to find - they rarely show up at auction sites...
I have added several new difficult to find Jai Hind issues that I was able to acquire recently. Enjoy. The link is http://navonanumis.blogspot.com/201...i-hind-bank-of-independence-banknotes_24.html
