The best denomination to CRH

Im on the hunt for silver, as much as possible. So here is my question, which denomination is best to look through ? Dimes, quarters, halves? My logic is that it might be smarter to look through dimes or quarters since they have a little less silver but I think that more people look through halves so I would have a lesser chance at finding them. Another possibility is nickels. In nickels you could possibly find v nickels, buffalo nickels pre1960 jeffersons and even 35% war nickels. Please post some of your findings here, all replies are helpful. Thank you.

Personally, I would stick with dimes or halves. Nickels are fun to go through though as well!

 

Is that a no on quarters?

 

A couple of years ago when I was more active here, I remember someone saying that you're lucky if you find 1 90% quarter in $1000. So that kind of detered me from searching quarters.

 

dimes! halves are ok, but you can go for a while without finding. I have found 1 quarter in change at a dollar store, and I got REALLY REALLY lucky once with a full roll of 90% quarters someone had cashed out, but I have NEVER bothered with a full box of quarters. Dimes and halves for me.

 

Probably since there are so many state ATB and territory quarters. Dimes or halves then?

 

Stick to quarters...so I don't have to worry about you pulling nickels, dimes, and halves

Almost no silver quarters left. I have found maybe 3-4 in the past 2 years

 

So halves are the way to go

 

Your problem will be supply and demand with half dollars. Most national banks won't order them for you, and most will complain heavily if you bring them in to the coin counter. Of course, most banks (not credit unions, though) seem to complain if you ask them to do anything except collect your money.

 

just from my experiences, i usually find:
1 90% dime in every $200 (BWR)
1 90% dime in every $100 (CWR)
1 90% quarter in every $1,500 (BWR)
1 90% quarter in every $1000 (CWR)
1 90% half in every $750 (BWR)
1 40% half in every $300 (BWR)
1 90% half in every $150 (CWR)
1 40% half in every $50 (CWR)
1 90% dollar in every $600 (BAGGED)*
0 40% dollars in approximately $10K searched

(all of the above are estimates)

if i had to pick one, i'd stick with CWR halves. do a little of everything if you can.
the problem with CWR halves is that banks usually dont have very many, but they always have some CWR dimes.

*the bank that used to order me bags of large dollars told me that they cant get them anymore

 

I have not been so lucky with finding silver. Roughly 1 silver dime per box. But I have found like a million proof kennedy's and dimes.

 

It appears halves are where the most money can be found . Because it would take t dimes to match one half dollar. Meaning I would search $ 1250 vs $750. Do any banks sell large dollar bags?

 

Assuming you actually get any out of either. I have done boxes and boxes of dimes with nothing to show for it and I know people who do the same with halves. Right now I am on a 1 dime per $750 searched skunk streak and I have had much less luck with halves(though when I hit it on halves I usually do really really well).

 

But one half is better than one dime

 

the bank of america near me used to order $500 bags of ikes, but they recently informed me that they cant do that anymore

 

Was there a possibility of finding morgan or peace dollars?

 

yes, i found 23 out of $10,500 searched
i also found an ASE and a constitution commemorative

 

And they no longer do that?
