Like others, been slow to share new purchases. This is close to 3 months old. Got it for the reverse and ended up getting it for a steal too. Postumus (260 - 269 A.D.) AR Antoninianus O: IMP C POSTVMVS P F AVG, Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right. R: FIDES EXERCITVS Four military standards, hand on top of second, eagle on third. Lugdunum (Lyon) mint. Struck 266 A.D. 3.8g 20mm RIC V 303; Cunetio 2432; Elmer 417; RSC 65 Scarce
Very nice coin. I was looking at a few of those reverse types and then decided to get this one instead. I may get that one next if I get another Postumus coin.
Nice and interesting coin for your collection. I'm like randy, I've not seen this reverse type. This is my fav from my collection and it's rather common: POSTUMUS Antoninianus OBVERSE: IMP C POSTVMVS PF AVG, his radiate, draped and cuirassed bust rt REVERSE: PAX AVG - Pax advancing left, holding branch and scepter Struck at Lugdunum, 259-268 AD 3.8g, 22mm RIC 78
Sweet => I love your new addition, Mat (I agree that the obverse rocks, but the cool reverse is my favourite ... a "hna" and an "eagle" thrown-in for style-points!) ... randy & Bing, both of your examples are awesome as well (congrats, fellas) I have two Postumus examples ... ... Postumus always reminds me of this charming fellow from The Sons of Anarchy ...
I like most Postumus coins I come across and this new one of yours is no exception, Mat. I am especially enjoying the portrait. It reminds me that it's been some time since I last bought a Postumus... must remedy that! My favorite Postumus... POSTUMUS Double Sestertius 9.85g, 27mm Atelier II, 261 - 263 AD RIC 166, Sear 11069, Bastien 152 (15 ex.) O: IMP C M CASS LAT POSTVMVS P F AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right. R: VICTORIAE AVG, two Victories standing face to face, attaching A shield to A palm tree, captives seated left and right below, S C in ex. And my favorite Postumus ant... POSTUMUS Antoninianus 3.6g, 20mm Trier mint, 263 - 265 AD RIC 80, Sear 10979 O: IMP C POSTVMVS P F AVG, Radiate draped and cuirassed bust right. R: PROVIDENTIA AVG, Providentia draped, standing face looking left, holding a globe in right hand and transverse scepter in left.
Nice coin! So, is the reverse with standards scarce in and of itself, or does this coin exhibit some sort of variety that's scarce?
nice new postumus mat...i don't have one of him yet. yup ....on the list. i zoomed in your pic to see the hand on the second standard....and i keep thinking that hand is flipping me the bird.
