ANACS 1 Slab With 1883-CC dollar

I understand that this may be a foreign concept to you, but some people, for many different reasons, actually want their coins in more widely accepted holders. Again, and while not meant as a slight to ANACS, not everyone thinks that overgraded slugs in junk holders are a good thing, especially when used to burn new collectors, gift buyers, and/or collectors who simply do not know any better. Therefore, I would think that you're quite happy with the fact that some people, both with and without "dollars to burn", are regrettably without "enough sense" to see though some of the nonsense.

Also, perhaps you could explain this "pun" to me because I am just not seeing it.

In some cases, yes, but if speaking only of the coin itself, this just isn't one of them... unless your plan is to try to get it into some junk 70 holder and then ask PCGS money for it.

If the COIN in the "junk" holder is ACTUALLY in better condition than the coin in a PCGS holder shouldn't it be worth more money?

Many people would say no, that's because they are buying plastic.

 

Those words you spoke are not merely opinions, they are truths! A good coin, is a good coin, is a good coin. THAT IS WHAT MATTERS! The plastic is only meaningful with regards for its ability at coin preservation, that is why I use SEGS instead of most others.

 

If this really had anything to do with the coin (or any coin) you would, of course, be right. However, that's not really what we're talking about here, and a quick look at this "gentleman's" offerings should quickly clear up any confusion.

You'll hear no disagreement from me in regards to the coin being what should matter most; ideally this would always be the case and anyone with an interest in coins would know as much about them as the next guy, but we both know this simply isn't the case. Therefore, plastic can and does matter, and can be especially true for the novice buyer, so those who take it upon themselves to acquire and then fluff junk plastic, and the often equally junk coins residing inside, for the sole purpose of taking advantage of such people, should be looked upon only with the contempt they deserve.

 

It is a fact that top quality coins reside in so called "second tier" slabs. It is also a fact that when those coins are offered for sale, in general, they will sell at a big discount to coins of the same grade in 1st tier plastic. The exceptions would be when those top quality coins are offered to the small group of dealers and collectors who actually know how to grade and appreciate original surfaces, and who are honest enough to appreciate the coin for what it is and pay appropriately. Most of them, upon purchasing such coins, will use the end-cut pliers and submit them to a 1st tier grading service.
Now, of course many of us will "never" sell our coins.Bear in mind, At some point, we may have a financial crisis, or die and leave them to our heirs who have no interest in them. When those coins in SEGS or ICG or ANACS slabs are taken to a dealer, in most cases they will offer bottom feeder money. If you doubt this, take your PQ coins in 2nd tier slabs around to various dealers at a major show and see what they offer compared to PCGS or NGC.

 

The reality is that I feel anacs is no 3 and they get it right far more often then anyone other then NGC or pcgs. My biggest problem is the market acceptability of their slabs the fact that I can't send a quality original coin in one to cac. And the fact that their slabs other then the little white ones are just friggin ugly!! Personally I'd say their reasonably accurate in grading far more then other second teir tpgs don't even get me started on them and NGC/pcgs are far from perfect too I've got some crap pcgs slabbed that just sucks! One was a coin they shoulda detailed I was in a hurry to get out a big shipment and didn't look close at some coins from a big lot they slabbed some clean that I can't wait to get rid of yet I don't even want to sell em myself!! As to anacs coins most I crack out slab at the same grade some even higher but I was buying coins And learning to grade before there was tpgs!

 

And the reality is myself and many others will look for a real quality coin in an off brand slab buy the coin not the slab crack it out get it reholdered and make money with a first rate coin in a first teir slab

 

However standards change with time. It may be that these second tier companies get more acceptance and the first tier companies get less. No one knows what the future may bring.

 

Two of the three most expensive coins in this gentleman's inventory are third rate tpg coins priced at pcgs money and drop around 90% of their value with one point drop in grade.

I do have a real question for the other coin talkers. I can't tell so I would like other people's opinions. Does this really look like a proof or is it more of a polished and not proof coin. You can find it in 40_mila_kokkina's eBay inventory. Given how much a real proof Isabella costs I don't understand why he is giving us such a good deal when segs is such a great grading service per his other multiple posts.

Honestly, those selections you pointed out really are wonderful, deeply struck, lustrous BRILLIANT rare coins and difficult to find in those grades! Certainly if seen in person any knowledgeable numismatist would agree they are accurately described and would be very pleased to own such nice examples. I am charging very serious good money for these specimens, don't think I'm giving them away due to the plastic containers.

My apologies if you find it unbecoming, but when certain individuals take it upon themselves to spew nonsense, it should be countered. While you may not like to read it, perhaps the impressionable members who may not know any better will take something away from it and avoid an expensive lesson.

 

I bet they'd come back with lesser grades if broken out and sent to either PCGS or NGC . It looks to me like you're trying to pass over graded coins for stupid money .

 

How come there are no records of Isabella proof coins , could it be that the 1st coins minted were prooflike coins ?
