I am not surprised that the Mint did this. Maybe the next time they come up with a special issue they will just keep the sales online to prevent this sort of frenzy from occurring again.

They had sales and production meetings on these weeks in advance of this weeks show. I'm certain that safety issues were brought up more than once. It's too bad people had to get trampled on for this to stop. The folks at the Mint that went with money over safety should be gone. We all knew this was coming, it's been building since the Reverse Proof Buffalo.

I say ONLINE ORDERS ONLY, anybody with me?

Yes for real. All those poor soles expecting another couple pay days lose out as well as the big dealers paying them. I have not seen one Kennedy gold slabbed or in the box for sale at the show so far.

When we left at about 5:45 there were people walking from the train parking with their chairs and food. I guess they didn't get the message....I was having a good laugh. The cop I talked to was glad they stopped it. I think Rosemont police were getting fed up with dealing with the mess as we'll. I hope it's a lesson learned but we shall see.

I'm curious if you noticed an increase in shady people around the show. Did they stay outside? I would think all the dealers at the show would be worried about these thousands of people all showing up looking for a quick buck, whether it be standing in line, or just commit robbery.

They all had to come in to buy their gold. Many stayed in groups and then a dealer or his rep would either lead the group away or off to the side hand them envelopes. My wife wanted to video some of it but never did.

And yes, it's just a regular show now. Not being prejudiced but there were a huge number of Chinese in the lines outside and many tended to hang in groups.

I'll be there sometime tomorrow. Have to pick up my halves from NGC.

The bottom also fell out from under those who spent $$$ trying to corner the late sales on this coin. If you acquired a gold coin, $2000 was all dealers were paying for them by mid afternoon. It could have been less by 5:30pm. That's a far cry from the $5000 offered on opening day. My only question about that sign, did he mean for that day only? There was no talk on the bourse about not selling gold Kennedy's the last two days. No signage by the mint or official announcement. Plus, that same sign was on the door yesterday afternoon and sales took place today. Amanda posted a picture of it here on the board. See it on her post: Laughable ANA

Ok... This is my insight on these. The baseball HOF gold sold for $420 and $425 from the mint. One just sold on eBay yesterday for $625. That is still a 32% premium over the issue price. This is MONTHS after they sold out. Let's see what happens when these sell out. I'd bet they settle in the $1,500-$1,700 range.

So, were there incidents that caused the mint to stop selling?

People got trampled. Unconfirmed muggings. Rosemont police had to babysit all night. I guessing hey were not happy about that.

I think its odd they said they had 500 per day for the 5 day show but sold less then half that number before shutting down.

Hopefully this is the end of coin releases at shows.

Well isn't this special. Hopefully they won't sell at the shows anymore because it is unfair for the general public.

Here is probably another reason sales were stopped, some jackass dealer hired a bunch of people from a stage production company to try and get coins. F-ING CLOWNSHOES.

EDIT: Also so what happened to the other 1000 or so JFK that they are now not selling at the show...??? Me thinks a dealer will be getting those, any takers?

I am with you Chief, the only people benefiting from the coins sold at the ANA show are the very large dealers.

$100,000 for the first coin sold at the ANA show ~ that is pure stupidity !

    U.S. Mint statement;

WASHINGTON - The United States Mint and the American Numismatic Association (ANA) announced today that sales of the 2014 50th Anniversary Kennedy Half-Dollar Gold Proof Coin have been suspended at the ANA's World's Fair of Money in Rosemont, Ill. The Mint and the ANA made the decision to ensure the safety of those wanting to purchase the coin and the safety of their own employees.

Anybody witness the adverse safety issues ?

    Dave
