I just checked my pres dollars and noticed the date is on the rim. So you go to sell your complete album 10 years from now and the buyer has to take all the coins out to check if they are all P & D mints. Dumb
The rim markings weren't necessarily a surprise. They had been talked about for quite a while. Guess it will take soem ingenuity to show off the rim in an album
that is dumb! probaly years from now when the rims get worn, the mintmark will wear off too. when that happens the mintmark will be gone and everybody will be confused!
Just to note, you have to do the same thing with your typical blue whitman folders with the old silver coins and pre-65 nickels if you don't trust the source...
http://www.worldclassbodybuilding.c...php/new-1-coin-circulation-27958.html?t=27958 See what you all have done?!? Bodybuilders, powerlifters and MMA practioners know about us know! LOL I had to share your wealth of knowledge and insight with the folks over there.
Actually, back in the early 1800's when they put the edge lettering on some coins, usually the edge lettering was the last thing to get worn off by circulation. Things may be a bit different now with vending, automated counting, and slot machines which tend to be hard on coins, but on the other hand I don't expect the presidential dollars to circulate much either.
I agree, if you look at very worn cents from 1793 - 1795 the obv and rev are often almost gone, but usually the edge lettering is still clear. Well worn early halves show the same thing, the edge is about the last thing to go. Of course they didn't have all the vending machines that we have today. I still think the edge lettering will hold up better than some people think.
We will know the date because the Wahington Dollars will only be made in 2007. So the date can be worn and we will know its 2007 -------------------------------------------------------------------- 2007 1 George Washington 1789-1797 2 John Adams 1797-1801 3 Thomas Jefferson 1801-1809 4 James Madison 1809-1817 2008 5 James Monroe 1817-1825 6 John Quincy Adams 1825-1829 7 Andrew Jackson 1829-1837 8 Martin Van Buren 1837-1841 2009 9 William Henry Harrison 1841 10 John Tyler 1841-1845 11 James K.
