I know that one of the Monthly Supplements lists some DMPL prices for MS63-MS65 Morgans, but is there more data available? I understand that they can't list every minor variety, and I'm guessing that they included DMPLs in this grade range because they are the most popular. Bottom line question is: how do you assess a fair-market value to a coin that is designated as PL? Is there a Greysheet number attached to it or is it all in the eye of the beholder? Thanks.
Bluesheet has PL Morgans 4 times a year I believe, but other than that looking at completed listings on ebay, and past auction results. PCGS Coinfacts costs $99 a year, and gives you 3-4 recent auction results.
The CDN does not list PL because it would make the weekly publication too large and too hard for them to manage. The best thing to do would be to search completed auction listings. Chris
I agree. But I think it would be a good idea to keep in mind that with special designation coins sometimes that special designation has more importance to some people than it does to others. And those folks are liable to pay more than anybody else. But that doesn't necessarily mean the coin is really worth that much to the average person. I think what one has to do is decide how much that designation is worth to you, and not be overly influenced by how much it is worth to somebody else. Of course that is true of any coin, but it is more so with coins having a special designation, any special designation.
