Ummm, you dudes obviously know that I'm a complete coin-noob, right? ... but I do appreciate that you like the coins that I hunt and capture!! (me too ... yah, I must admit that I think I'm pretty good at scavenging the cool lookin' examples, eh?) ... well, obviously I have a whole herd of you awesome dudes steering me and giving me good and bad coin-opinions (I absolutely charish your views and comments) ... Batman => well obviously, I consult you on almost every single one of my purchases => I love ya brother (you are all that and six bags of chips and some dip and a 6-pack of higher-end beer ... oh, and ice-cream and shooters tossed-in as absolute bonus-points!!) ... thanks, my amazingly cool Canadian friend (if not for you, I would not be collecting ancient coins => you rock) ... oh, and my wife hates you!! Dougsmit(h) => although you make me furious with some of your comments and/or when you don't comment on a coin that I basically bought for your comments, but I really do think that you are all that as well ... you are an absolute gem as far as info is concerned (I am afraid that I may accidentally rub you the wrong way from time-to-time, but I hope that you know that I "love" hearing any opinions that you have regarding my coins ... and sure, I may play the cry-baby from time to time if you have negative coin-comments, but I hope that you realize that I'm merely poking fun at myself and you for my lack of coin knowledge (thanks very much for all of your help ... you rock and I consider your coin-opinions as gospel)) ... Bing => well, you know the story .... I was dead-in-the-water and you held-out a hand and saved me ... a bunch of us drifted-over to this site and the rest was history (I love you for having my back and realizing that I wasn't merely a total dick ... or duck?) ... I owe ya one, my best coin-friend!! JA, Jango, Z-bro, chrsmat, TIF, Eng, Mat, Bannon, Med-man, AJ, Ardy, randygeki, Martin, etc (man, I know that I've forgotten a few of you cool coin-friends ... my bad) => yah, you dudes are the "wheel-house" and one of the main reasons that I collect coins ... you comrades make the whole coin-collecting experience "awesome" .... THANKS!! Ummm, here are my 10 favourite ancients ... yah whateva ... I know that this thread may have been done before (by me, probably?) ... regardless, what else do you cool ancient coin collectors have on your plates? => so "please" feel free to add your 10 favouries as well ... I admit that the thread might become a total sh*t-show, but honestly, isn't that what you might expect from one of my blah-blah-blah threads!!? Hey, I love you guys (and TIF) ... and I love my coins ... so, I hope that the two will find a sweet mix!! Hmmmm .... do I go from 10th to 1st (I guess so, eh?) Oh, and before you start saying that it depends on my mood, etc, etc ... yah well, my mood changes too, so just post your favourites in "todays' mood" ... I kinda like you guys!! Cheers!! 10 coins to follow ...
=> "CHEEERS" (oh, and I'm sure that you all know their details by now, so I'm not gonna cloud this thread with coin-details) ... I like you guys
ahahah ... in the end, I kinda randomly tossed those ten babes together, so they aren't really in any order (maybe you dudes can "rate" my top ten?!!) ummm surprisingly, I think my favourite coin might be the good ol' Ass & Crow? (hmmm, and as I stated earlier, I already have a few coins that I'd sub-out and bring-in a few others) ... maybe I should have made it a top 20???
... or not ... The whole point was to merely say "thanks" for giving me feedback on my coins ( I like you dudes ... and I will continue to give my weak coin-feedback in the future) ... Coin-on!!
wow ... you're aces, my friend => oh, and thanks for the JA-comments, and thanks for posting those ridiculous coins of yours!! (just jokes)
congrats stevex! cointalk has the perfect mix of goofballs and scholars, top shelf rollers and bargain bin hunters that make it an awesome place for us coin nerds...regardless of what flavor of coin nerd you happen to be. stevex your certainly add plenty of flavor..it would be a blander place without you. here's 10 coins I really like!
Thanks for the comments little brother. You continue to make coin collecting and this forum much more entertaining and thus enriching. It would not be the same without you. So here is a tip of the glass to ya.
Congrats, Steve... it's been great having your company on this forum. So here are my tribute coins... they are are pretty random (like someone we know? ) and not quite my Top 10, but they are "Never Before Shown On CoinTalk"! A-Pi & Marky A. double bill Q. Pomponius Musa denarius with a turtle (and Terpsichore, the muse of dance) Elagabalus from Nikopolis ad Istrum Otacilia Severa - the only "chick coin" I've ever bought on its own strength Marius, my favorite blacksmith/usurper M. Aemelius Lepidus denarius It's got countermarks... the only thing I know about this one Tiberius from Spain, Illici Unknown... pretty sure this one used to be a coin, though A grungy Caracalla Cheers!
Congrats Steve, ya wild animal! My top ten, in no particular order (there were a few others though that were so close to making it on here!): Majorian Libius Severus Louis the Pious Louis the Pious Athalaric City of Ravenna civic issue Theodahad Anastasius Gelimer City of Rome civic issue, Ostrogothic
I see I'm less than half a Steve with only 3995 likes but I do understand why. At the moment I would have trouble being sure of the top ten but editing down from the 99 1/2 I came up with today's list: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/dougsmith/favs.html 1,2,3,4,5,10,11,46,58,and 95 I'm more concerned with which of the listed 99 1/2 are the bottom of the pile since I need to make room to post a new acquisition that may not make the top 10 but is still a strong also ran. I suppose I should also figure out my overall bottom 10 (100 or 1000???) and get rid of them but that is hard, too.
Well, clicking the "like" button is hit or miss for me. Typically I click it if someone posts a new acquisition that I appreciate. But sometimes threads get quite long before I get a chance to read them, and then it's just too tedious to click "like" over and over and over again. And sometimes I'm a grumpy old fart and don't feel like it, even if I like someone's contribution.
Well, I'm just so fricken likeable, eh? ... yah, I merely like to acknowledge someone's efforts for participating and posting one of their coins (I like hearing feedback if I post a new coin and I love posting a coin-type if another member posts a coin .... sure, maybe it gets a bit old every now and then, but I personally think that it is better than sitting back and not participating and commenting on a person's purchases ..... I guess I'm merely a social-type who likes to interact with the other cool members) Cheers, gang (great coins!)
I think i gave you 1000 of these likes. you make this a fun place to post Steve, you always give likes, there are many that don't. great Ancient's folks, we don't have to worry about first strikes and early releases. maybe to its the other way around with Ancients. Here's a few of mine.. New pic.
I believe your last one is the ancient equivalent of burnished surfaces. The fields are stippled but the tops of the letters are smooth. There is a bit too much wear to call it a proof but those fields are interesting in a different way not covered in standard grading. Decent Medusa for the grade, also.
