Anybody have first hand experience with Intercept Shield technology to protect coins ? Those .9999 fine ASEs are at risk.
its the best thing on the market IMO. i would spend a couple of hundred extra on it easy. its worth the effort but one box can hold 10 mint sets is only 15 bucks incl shipping so its pretty cool.
while searching my web links to respond to De Orc's request, I came across this on the Brent-Krueger site. ---- start of quote from Brent-Krueger ---- We often receive emails and phone calls from our customers about the availability and expiration of Intercept Shield albums. As one of the largest former re-sellers of the Intercept Shield product line in the United States, we have decided to discontinue the Intercept Shield album line. ---- end of quote from Brent-Krueger ---- here is the link (http://www.brent-krueger.com/interceptqa.html) for the complete discussion, including a link to Dansco's products that includes a new inhibitor slip cover for existing albums.
Since they came out with boxes to hold slabs like PCGS and NGC, now ALL of my slabs are stored in these boxes for this extra safety measure which is over and above common sense practices such as low humidity and room temperature coin storage.
Howdy, Dansco is now selling slip-covers for their albumns that have been treated with Silver Guard Corrosion Inhibiting protection. http://www.amosadvantage.com/scottonline/product.asp?part%5Fno=DCSSC3&category=CNAD I have NOT tried the Dansco offering and DO have some Intercept Shield albumns and they seem to be working well. The problems have NOT been with protection, but the albumn availability selection and the quality of the albumns themselves. For example, the inside row of coins has slipped out of their slots on one of mine and I have to be careful with the way I handle it. Per the other distributor discontinuing the line link, I guess it's not a matter of the technology, but whether or not they make a decent coin albumn that fits your needs. peace, rono
Not to botherd about the albums I have and like my Dansco & Lighthouse LOL but it is the box's for mint set slabs that I was (and am) Interested in and have just found a seller on good old Ebay LOL Have to say though that I do like the looks of the albums De Orc :kewl: Just seen the lighthouse Pres album at http://www.amosadvantage.com/scotton...&category=CNAD and it looks real nice
Here's the mfg : http://www.interceptshield.com/products.html Almost all of my coins are slabbed. The best of 'em are in a Safe Deposit Box, which will not hold the "20-coin box" these guys offer. I need a solution for those fellas. As for my bling-bling at home, I'm gonna score a couple of these little babies ("20-coin box").
They have a box for them too! As for your safety deposit box, give them a call and ask where you can get some of these intercept liners because the last time I called them asking for them to come out with a box for PCGS/NGC slabs, they informed me the even PCGS was looking to line their large safes with this technology protection. ...and I started to think I would love to do that to my gun safe as well. It can't hurt
My understanding is Intercept works by having a chemical reaction with oxygen and other "bad guys". That would seem to mean the reactant in the Intercept is consumed in the process... Do the liners need to be replaced (or regenerated) over time ?
10 years. and then u need to replace if you get the boxes if u just get the bags its 5-7 depending on the kind
I read everything on Intercept Shield's website, and everything seems to address corrosive gases. I didn't see that this technology addresses HUMIDITY. How does one get lower humidity - at home and in a Safe Deposit Box ? Is there a wy to use dessicant gel a la cameras ?
A thing to keep in mind. Intercept Shield type products are NOT compatible with Metal SAFE type products. The Metal Safe type work by releasing a vapor that coats the coins for protection. Intercept shield reacts with stuff in the air to stop the bad stuff from getting to the coins. So the Metal Safe vapor would be reacted with by the Intercept Shield, kind of ruining the purpose of both.
