Hello. I'm new here, and u need some help with this coin. I don't know anything about it. It does say 1864 on under the horseman ALSO! there's another silver coin 1944 Here's some of the other coin. Anybody know the values or at least some info?
The 1864 piece is a Civil War token. During the Civil War there was a shortage of small change and privately issued tokens were circulated to substitute for the lack of coins. This is a "Patriotic" token (usually depicting some patriotic scene or motto), other tokens, referred to as "store cards", bore the name of merchants (kind of advertising if you will) and circulated. There are a myriad of designs and varying rarity of these pieces. I am not an expert, but I am sure someone on this forum who is will weigh in on the piece and correct any wrong information I wrote. The other piece you have is a Philippines 20 Centavos KM# 182 issued from 1937-1945 in the Philippines under U.S. Administration. It is silver 0.7500 fineness (ASW 0.0964g)
The 1944 coin is a Philippines 5 Centavos. It is made of copper-nickel-zinc with a mintage of 21,198,000. It has a current value of about USD$0.15.
Sorry, you are right. It is a 20 centavos coin. I was associating it with the wrong information in Krause. It had a mintage of 28,596,000.
Lawtoad is correct is identifying the first piece as a Civil War Token. Each die used in producing these tokens has been given an identifying number in the book "Patriotic Civil War Tokens" by George and Melvin Fuld. As near as I can tell from your pictures your token is a Fuld 54/179, Rarity 2. This means that one side is die number 54 and the other is die number 179. Rarity 2 indicates that from 2001 to 5000 pieces are estimated to exist. Your token is holed and appears to have a bit of corrosion so it's value would be minimal.
