Help, I am having a hard time finding VF indian cents. Dealers in my area, (15 years ago) had everything when I was collecting. Now it looks like I can only cash a check early, buy a gun, pawn a ring and then buy a coin. It kind of kills the hobby. I wanted to buy from a local vendor because you remember every coin you buy. Now I'm forced to look online. I am looking for vendors who will have a photo and inventory of VF coins. The ones I can find(in the key dates) are more like a VF-19, meaning they want VF-20-30 money for it. E-bay is just like the pawn shop. How can I find what I am looking for? Any ideas? I would like to finish a VF Indian Cent / VF Buffalo / VF Liberty Seated 25 and 50 ..... Thanks, Brent Kleiser Fresno, CA
Brent - Not sure if you are saying the problem you are having is that you think coins are overgraded & overpriced - or that you just can't find the coins you want. Overpriced/graded is about the norm for many dealers I'm afraid. Of course you also have to take into account the effect market grading has had on coins over the years. 15 years ago a coin that was graded VF20 would easily be graded XF35 today. Unfortunately grading standards have changed greatly in the past 15 yrs. I would suggest getting aquainted with the current grading standards so that you know what you are looking at price wise. Of course you can always apply your own grade to the coin - but don't expect to find what you were used to 15 yrs ago. Once you resign yourself to that fact - it should be an easy matter to find what you are looking the coins you are looking for - just not at the prices you are looking for.
