Did you know there is a Type 3 Standing Liberty Quarter? I didn't until tonight!

I was having a beer with @mainer020648, and we were talking about Type sets. He kept saying he needed 3 SLQ, and I kept thinking "Three?". Type 1 & 2 I know and own. But a Type 3?

Finally I asked, and he did indeed say there are three. Of course I went right home and googled this new discovery, and sure enough the *SOME* of the NGC registry sets list:

    25c STANDING LIBERTY, TYPE 1 1916-17
    25c STANDING LIBERTY, TYPE 2 1917-24
    25c STANDING LIBERTY, TYPE 3 1925-30

The I found THIS PAGE, which was helpful.

So I learned something new today, and now realize I need to add another coin to my Want list. :writer:

Anyone else shocked to learn of a Type Three SQL? :jawdrop:

Not new news by any stretch of the imagination...;) but is something I wish was more widely accepted/acknowledged.

It's understandable to miss the Type 3, because it doesn't appear nearly as often as Type 1/Type 2. For a 1917 SLQ, or a 1913 Buffalo nickel, you have to specify Type 1 or Type 2; for a 1924 or 1925 SLQ, there's no need.

Of course, that doesn't explain the more common use of Type 1/2/3 for gold dollars, vs. the less common use of Type 1/2/3 for three-cent silvers.

Beautiful coins! Did you photograph the 1917 and 1928-D? Those photos are absolutely amazing :)

That is why the 1927S, very low mintage, is not far more expensive

I found out about the SLQ types when I started my type set.
I use the NGC Registry as my guide and they include the Type 3.

I didn't know. There's almost always someone new to this who can learn from little "reminders" like this. Thanks.
