Any way to album display individual proof coins in air-tites?

I have some of the ASE proofs and recent commemorative silver dollars that come in all the fancy mint packaging with the little velvet box and such.

I don't want to pull these coins out of the plastic disc and slap them in a Whitman album, but I wish I could put them in an album somehow for easier viewing instead of fumbling around with all the packaging every time I want to look at them or show them off.

Do they have some kind of albums where you can display coins of this type while keeping them in their protective plastic disc case? Or do people who collect these coins actually pop them out of the the container and slap them in the cardboard display albums? That seems crazy to me.

Any thoughts?

All of the major supply houses carry vinyl notebook pages with 12 2.5"x2.5" pockets as well as the common 2"x2" pockets. They are designed to hold the cardboard/mylar coin holders. The 20-pocket pages probably won't stretch enough to hold the hard plastic discs, but the 12-pocket ones probably would. The pages fit in an ordinary 3-ring binder.

Skinny, while there are many air-tite albums, none of them will fit the holders that come directly from the mint.

I just called a company that uses a similar name "Air-Tites.com" to see if they had anything that could be used with mint holders. I was told by the person that he is not aware of any holder company that produces an album that can display the individual coin holders that the mint uses. These holders are not the same sizes as the air tites, kointains or other commercially available holders.

The only display albums I can find for mint products are those from Eagle that are designed for the mint and proof set multi-coin holders.

 

Eagle Albums hold Air-Tites

The Eagle album pages are designed for Eagle holders.
However, they also hold Air-Tites just fine.

Note the Air-Tite album is *not* inert -- it contains vinyl.
The Eagle album contains vinyl also, but the Eagle pages are
(inert) Mylar. A better solution, for those of us who worry about
PVC contaminating coins.

I have cut the Eagle pages to fit a blank Littleton album.
Littleton albums are archival quality.

You Can obtain Cherry Wood cases that can display just about any coin in its original plastic capsule. I have obtained a few of which I can display 20 SAE Proofs. in the container with velvet lining. Also have one for my Large cent collection, and two for my Indian Cent collection. tHE BOX SIZES ARE THE SAME BUT THE INSETS HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE COLLECTION OF DIFFERENT SIZE HOLES. Problem is that these cases as all cases are subject to be environmently unfriendly, due to the acidity of the wood I am told.One must also consider the storage of all coins, they absolutely must be kept under 35 Deg Humidity, otherwise toning will eventually result. The more humid an area, the fater they will tone. Thus I don't get to see my collections very often. PS. Silica gel is the only known substance sold in different sizes that will contrrol the humidity in a closed container. I purchased several bags of 450 grams in bags which claims that it protects 33 cubic feet of space. Of course it doesn't, especially if your averaye humidity if between 60 and 70%. I recently bought some 2006 and 2007 gold that was already beginning to tone, what a waste to buy these if you can't keep them as shiny as they were when they were first made by the mint.:loud:

I have learned a lot from reading this forum.

Buckeyed, I conducted a chemical experiment. 30 years of storage in cardboard
folders, in hot and humid North Carolina. Some of my coins are golden now, but
most are ugly yellow and black. After this experience, I will never be a fan of toning.
I have bought the silica gel, and plan to use it. Thanks,

I should have said, the Eagle pages are rigid vinyl, not Mylar.
The main point is, they do not contain PVC.

I cut Eagle pages and punched new holes to fit an archival
Littleton album last night. Put my Air-tite holders in this
morning, and they look great!

I really like your idea. Could you post some up-close pics of this? I would do what your saying, but I have a lot of time and money invested in Dansco's. Want to change out as several of my coins have toned (most attractive and a few so-so looking) and I am nervous the toning might not stop. I looked on Brett-Krueger's coin supply site and they recommended the same thing as you under the Air-tite section. Are the Eagle pages (20 2x2 slots) 8x11 size and therefore you cut off the bottom rows to fit in the Littleton albums? On the website they say that the Air-tites are somehow secured in the slots of the Eagle pages. Could you post up close photos of this? Their explanation of this made no sense to me. Buying three different products is a lot of time, money, energy so I want to be sure this will work. Do the Air-tites move around or can you keep them in an exact position. I like symmetry and don't like my coins displayed crooked or off-center. I'm in angst over what to do about my Dansco's. Part of me says leave well enough alone and let them tone and just try to control the humidity and suflur which I am fanatical about anyway (read some of my other posts).

I went with CoinEdge holders and their album pages. These securely hold each coin and allow viewing front, back and edge while in an album.

I have displayed all of my collections in Cherry Wood Cases. True the presentation cases only hold 20 Large cents, so had to purchase three for large cents and two for my Indians. All kept under 35 deg humidity. I'm quire satisfied with it so far. Same with my Proofs, These cases and airties from the us mint are perfoect for the occasions. They are hard to put in, but will never move around.
