Right you are Frank. I've seen some real woofers in MS-61/62........

I've been looking at it like this green. A 58 and a 60/61/62 are all really about the same grade numerically, but many times they are worlds apart on eye appeal.

You have 58s which represent the top of the line of a circulated coin. It gets no better than a 58. However the 60/61/62s are all low end mint state and reside there due to an issue. So would you rather have a high-end coin with more eye appeal, or a low end coin that has issues and is even graded as such?

I like the 58s, but they really have to glow and be fairly original and really nice coins.

My set of quarters looks really well matched with mostly 58s and 62s. 62s are my other favorite grade for the most part. Especially in my series

This was easily the nicest circ 1901 Morgan I've ever seen. Unfortunately, I was not able to capture the luster well at all, and the color in the photos is not as vibrant as it is in person. Unfortunately, I just sold this coin about a week ago . . . must look for another now.

Agree that AU's are fun to collect. Especially 58's. There are plenty of them available in most series (dates & m/m's) and if your patient, can pick up one that has awesome eye appeal while paying a reasonable price.

As I get further along on my type set, I'll be looking to add many of them in AU58.

This coin crossed over to PCGS as an MS62, I paid strong cash money for it at $475 from a local club member, so maybe I will be able to get out of it without losing too much $$. It is unfortunately a numbers and slab game when it comes to what people are willing to pay.
